If you're anything like me, you experience a whole lot of stress. You get stressed from your family, school/work, chores, sports, etc. and it can all can come at you at once. Do you think that you being this stressed is healthy for you, you probably just said to yourself of course it bad for you. Truth is, it's not bad at all, the thought of thinking it's bad is bad.
There was a study done, tracking adults in the U.S. and asked them how much stress they had experienced in the past year. Following that question, they asked if they believed stress was bad for you. Approximately over the 8 years this study was taken, 182,000 people had died earlier than expected. These people past away not from stress, but from the belief that stress is bad for you. The people who didn't believe stress was bad for you had nearly no health problems compared to the people who did.
After seeing this study she came up with an interesting hypothesis. Could the way you think about stress actually make you a healthier person. There was then a study done at Harvard, where students were about to be taken in to do a math test. Before going into the testing room they were told to think as if stress is a good thing. For instance, if your heart started to race, it meant your body was preparing you for action, that you were also getting more oxygen to your brain. As the test went on it seemed that their heart rate didn't change much and it didn't increase from stress. Students left that exam stating that they felt confident.
Kelly's goal is to have you be better at the feeling of stress. I used to always looked as stress as an awful feeling with countless negative effects that followed. Maybe stress can be a really good thing if you think that it can be.
I encourage everybody to watch "How to make stress your friend" which I have posted above. Also spread the word that stress isn't bad, just the way you perceive it. You may be doing someone a great favor by telling them about what you've just learned, you may even save a life.
